Cigar Brands
- Bolivar
The brand was founded (possibly in Great Britain) by Jose F. Rocha around 1901 or 1902, though the brand was not registered in Havana, Cuba until 1921, under the ownership of Rocha’s firm, J.F. Rocha y Cia.
- Cohiba
Cohíba is a brand for two kinds of premium cigar, one produced in Cuba for Habanos SA, the Cuban state-owned tobacco company, and the other produced in the Dominican Republic for General Cigar
- Diplomaticos
Though Cohiba may have the distinction of being the first post-Revolution cigar brand created, no one knew of the brand outside of higher-ranking Cuban officials, the torcedores (cigar rollers) that made them, and foreign dignitaries lucky enough to be given a box as a diplomatic present. The first new brand of cigars to come out of Cuba after the Revolution was Diplomáticos.
- El Rey del Mundo
Believed to have been created, along with Sancho Panza, by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt in 1848, El Rey del Mundo (King of the World in Spanish) was at one time the most expensive and prestigious cigar brand in the world.
- H. Upmann
This marque traces its history back to 1844 and several rival versions of the story of its origin exist. It is known for sure that two brothers, August and Hermann Upmann founded the brand in that year.
- Hoyo de Monterrey
Hoyo de Monterrey is the name of two brands of premium cigar, one produced on the island of Cuba for Habanos SA, the Cuban state-owned tobacco company, and the other produced in Honduras for General Cigar.
- La Gloria Cubana
La Gloria Cubana brand was created in 1885 by the Sociedad Cabañas y Castro, then bought twenty years later in 1905 by José F. Rocha, who manufactured the brand from his factory at 364 Miguel Street in Havana.
- Montecristo
The Montecristo brand was created in 1935 by Menendez, Garcia y Cia, then the owners of the popular H. Upmann brand of cigars.
